Top 10 Places to visit in Skardu

To beat the heat of the summer, many Pakistanis pack their bags for many best places to visit in Skardu. Skardu is a destination of heaven on earth located in Pakistan's northwest. It is encircled by the Karakoram and Himalayan mountain ranges. My tourism cravings took me to Skardu back last year. I discovered the Skardu well with the best of my experiences and wrote them down to convey the best guide to visit Skardu.

If you're a mountaineering and trekking geek, you can find routes in Gilgit and Baltistan, beginning at Skardu. Skardu is where the second-highest peak on Earth, K2, is located.

Pakistan International Airlines flies between Islamabad and Skardu twice a day during the summer months. Skardu is closed throughout the winter because of the heavy snowfall. I've enlisted the best places to visit in Skardu; check out the below list of top 10 places to visit in Skardu;

Best Time to Visit Skardu.

Skardu is the capital of Baltistan. There are four seasons every year: summer, fall, winter, and spring. Any time of the year is suitable for a trip to the best places to visit in Skardu. In the spring, breathtaking views of cherry and apricot blooms cover the landscape. Similarly, you'll be able to witness the season's brilliant colors when you go outside in the fall.

Waterfalls and weather that are completely covered in snow are common in Skardu throughout the winter, making the climate almost intolerable for everyone other than the natives. When I went to Skardu for the first time, it was in the month of January, and I had to cut my trip short since there was a greater chance that I would not be able to tolerate the weather there.

However, it is still beneficial for the extreme sports enthusiast, and if you are a travel nerd, you can do it even better.

Skardu is a diverse region that features a variety of landscapes, including snow-capped mountains, gorgeous meadows, and verdant valleys. The following is a list of Skardu's most well-known places of interest to tourists.

What are the Best Places to Visit in Skardu?

Skardu has a large fan base and so is the area there which cannot be covered as a single place. So for convenience, we have elaborated the places there so you can do maximum fun here:

1: The Castle of Skardu

The Skardu fort is at the top of the list of top 10 places to visit in Skardu. Skardu has a sizable following, and so does the region that it inhabits; hence, the whole region cannot be visited in one sitting. Therefore, for your convenience, we have outlined the locations there so that you may have the most enjoyment possible here discovering the secrets in Skardu Valley was more of an adventure for me. I bet one of the most historic structures in Pakistan is the Skardu Fort, which has been inhabited continuously since the 8th century. It is no doubt a beautiful piece of architecture that also has a striking resemblance to the art of Tibetan construction.

This structure is just breathtaking. In addition, the fort is home to a mosque constructed in the 16th century and dates back to the introduction of Islam. The seven-story Skardu Fort is a well-known destination for vacationers due to the wealth of history it has and the exquisite art it contains. I enjoyed it a lot there and captured the moments on camera to recall the pleasure of that adventurous trip.

2: The valley of Khaplu

After fort Skardu, the Khaplu Valley was second on my list of best places to visit in Skardu. In the valley of Khaplu, I found so many breathtaking views of the entire region. I, no doubt, afforded a picture-perfect perspective thanks to a meandering road that was dotted with a few trees here and there.

It is physically impossible to use a single lens to capture panoramic vistas. Taking a ride in a jeep is a fun and exciting way to liven up your holiday, and so was mine.  The valley is the location of an ancient statue at the foot of the Karakorum mountain range and was the seat of the Yabgo Dynasty. Moreover. The fantastic museum housed within this medieval fort is another feature that brings in visitors.

3: The waters of Kachura Lake

Some of Skardu's lakes are so beautiful that they leave tourists in awe and enthralled. In this particular landscape, the upper Kachura Lake in Skardu is the most beautiful location, which I captured from different angles to capture the beauty of its peaks.

The Himalayan mountains were in the distance, and the lake was encircled on all sides by thick, deep forests. Everyone has at least one wish in their life to fulfill, and one of those wishes is to see this lake at least once. There is a wide variety of entertainment available for tourists to partake in, such as angling for rainbow trout, water sports such as boating and rafting on the emerald-colored waterways, and more.

4: The water bodies in Shangri-La.

Red-roofed bungalows were all around the upper Kachura Lake, which is also referred to as Shangri La Lake. Now, we are really close to reaching the 2499-meter mark. I was drawn to the lake because of its breathtaking beauty, despite the fact that it is located some distance from Lower Kachura Lake. The sight of snow-capped mountains set against the backdrop of a densely wooded area, a lake, and quaint little cottages made of red huts is really magnificent. In addition to this, both the flora and the wildlife that can be found here are incredibly varied. All this collectively brought this destination to my journey and made me write it among the best places to visit in Skardu.

5: The lake is known as Satpara.

Another gorgeous location in Skardu is Satpara Lake, which is situated at a height of 2,650 meters above sea level. The ice that covers a distance of 2.5 kilometers in the plains of Deosai melts into the lake, which is the primary supply of water for the lake. An idyllic island that looks like it was plucked straight from a storybook may be found in the middle of the lake. The turquoise color of the lake's water is hypnotic, and as a result, it attracts a significant number of tourists who come to fish, boat, and frolic in the fresh water. An amazing location to take in the beauty of nature and get some fresh air.

6: The Shigar Fort

The next location on my itinerary for the best places to visit in Skardu was the Shigar Fort in Skardu Valley. This fort is located smack dab in the center ofShigar'ss expansive plains. The stark beauty ofShigar'ss icy sand is not to be missed. A significant part of Skardu's past, the Shigar Fort is the city's most visited tourist destination. The Shigar Fort has sturdy underpinnings on account of the fact that it was constructed out of stones about 400 years ago. The fort, which was once known as the Palace of Rock, is now used as a guest house and contains twenty rooms in addition to a grand hall where artifacts significant to Baltit culture are on exhibit.

7: Deosai

As part of the Tour of the best places to visit in Skardu, the best part was visiting the expansive plains of Deosai. The area surrounding Deosai, which is a national park, is home to a population of brown bears. In this region of the country, the quiet is so terrible that one may almost hear their own heartbeat when walking across the plains of Skardu.

In addition, there is a diverse collection of uncommon plant and animal species to be found here. Moreover, the views of the sunrise and sunset are unforgettable experiences that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime.

8: Shear Lake of Himalayas

As I traveled around the region, I eventually found myself in the heart of the enormous Deosai plains at Sheosar Lake. The lake sits at an altitude of 13,589 feet above mean sea level, making it the highest lake in the world.

The bewitching scene of the deep blue lake set against the backdrop of the verdant plains of Deosai and the menacing mountains of Nanga Parbat in the distance is a sight to behold. The lake is stunning throughout the year, but during the winter, when it is frozen, and during the summer, when it is a kaleidoscope of colors, visitors are particularly captivated by its beauty. It is one of the best places to visit Skardu in winter.

9: Beautiful Katpana Lake

One of Skardu's hidden treasures, Katpana Lake, is gradually establishing a reputation for its mesmerizing beauty, which is attracting a growing number of fans. The picturesque community of Katpana is home to the namesake lake and lakeside park and is one of the top 10 places to visit in Skardu.

In addition to this, the distance to the city of Skardu is only 4 kilometers. The presence of so many different kinds of trees makes the view of the lake that much more beautiful. A trip to Skarduwouldn'tt is complete without taking in Katpana Lake, widely considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in Pakistan.

10: The Basho Valley

The journey comes to an end in the best places to visit in Skardu, in the Bashu Valley. A little more than two hours of driving time separates the jeep and the primary city center of Skardu. Even though it can get quite warm throughout the summer, the valley has nice summers. In addition, this location is perfect for engaging in outdoor pursuits like camping and hiking due to the expansive green plains and winding streams that can be found here. At night, when the air is crisp, and the sky is dark with thousands upon thousands of stars, it is even more spectacular than during the day. It is an essential stop for everyone visiting Skardu.

Alert: Unfortunately, Pakistan's stunning vistas are underwater yet. Damaged locations will soon be available to tourists after repairs are completed.
